Before you begin: To claim and register a free domain name, your Store must be configured. If you have not completed the Store setup yet, do that first before following this guide.
Upon site creation, your website will be assigned a temporary subdomain. You can publish your site and use this temporary subdomain to access your live website.
A domain name is the address people use to visit a website, such as potterystudio.com. It replaces your temporary subdomain with a custom, memorable web address. You can map multiple domain names to the same website if required.
How to get a custom domain name
You will need to click on the Main menu (3 lines at the top left corner) to open the following side panel. Then choose the Domains tab.
Use the search bar to find the domain name you will be using with your site. Be careful when typing and make sure you don't make any mistakes since once you have acquired your domain name, you cannot change it.
The most common domain name extension is .com, but you can choose any other if it's available.
Finally, you will need to register the domain name. Fill in the form to finalise the domain name registration. All domain names are registered for a year. After the year is over, if your account is still active, the domain name will be renewed automatically.
When the domain registration has been completed, you will receive an email notification. The domain name will be automatically mapped to your site. Just publish the site, and it will be reachable through your new custom domain name.
